DMBstudios 2014 Preview

Around December I become extra hermit-y trying to finish up drawing and inking as much as I can so I can look back someday and see a ton of my stuff with a 2013 date on it :)

I think it's really important to look back and take note of your accomplishments. I'm really happy with all the work I was able to produce in 2013... I just had to sacrifice any personal life I once had.

In 2013 I...

- Finished comic strip series "FAT fridaze: Year 2" (52 original comic strips)

-Started "FAT fridaze: Year 3" (the final year of the series)

-Debuted "TALES from Fashion City" (8 mini comics in a continuing series with characters I created a decade ago)

- Finally finished Envira III (which was started in 2011)

-Played live music for 6 months in a band (that no longer exists :(

-Recorded live music

-Produced/recorded/released 41 solo songs/sounds on Soundcloud


2014

I plan to continue FF3, TALES from Fashion City and Envira and I will be debuting a new comic series "Wanita the wheelchair Witch"

The next TALE (from Fashion City) will guest star a familiar face... I'm so glad I finally was able to make this one happen...

and lastly I will start finally animating.

Thanks, your support means a lot to me... without people reading my stories they are just sitting there gathering (digital) dust. I want to make 2014 a really great year... the more support I get the more I will be able to put into my work and the more readers etc the more professionals might take me seriously... dream? for a publishing company to come to me and want to print my stuff.

BLACK FRIDAY DOUBLE FEATURE

Unicorn heels is a comic idea I had a couple years ago and finally was able to use... I literally made this comic over the last two days and am really happy with it... FAT Fridaze Year 3

Time has really flown by... I can't believe I will be posting my 105th comic strip this Friday!

For those new to FAT fridaze it is a weekly comic strip series (my very first) about 2 gay best friends (also my first comic with a gay protagonist) Adrian & Phoenix started back in 2010. I had always wanted to work on a series with gay characters that I could relate to, characters that don't really fit into the mainstream idea of "GAY"...

I'm excited to finally work on a few ideas and stories I've had for a while and didn't realize I could tell with these characters... I honestly don't know how FF3 will end but I have a few ideas...

I got to attend Bent Con this past weekend (GAY NERDS UNITE!!) It was great to be around other gay nerds and see their work... I was really excited to see the panel for Husbands and meet the amazingly talented & funny Jane Espinson, Brad Bell, Sean Hemeon, Drew Z. Greenberg, & Eli Gonda. (of course I immediately got awkward and didn't know what to say to any of them...) but still glad I got to be there.

Unfortunately most of the comics and art I saw could be classified as stereotypical gay porn... bulging muscles, giant veiny cocks... (perpetuating crazy unrealistic standards for younger gay guys and contributing to the over sexualization and further objectification of gay men) one of the other reasons I made FF is because I wanted there to be something out there that wasn't porn. Something that showed a gay guy behind the scenes... at home, with friends... I really wanted to show intimacy as opposed to penetration. I feel like one of the reasons gay media isn't taken seriously is because it tends to rely too much on sex and nudity and comes across as low budget soft core... with Husbands and other amazing new gay web series I feel like soon there will be more money for gay media all around...

So... I was planning on posting TFFC: "Remember When?" part II this Wednesday but I am finally getting to visit family in Texas... much needed vacation... in the meantime, check out part one :) (just click the image below) I am so excited to finally be fleshing out these characters... part II has a lot of stuff I've been wanting to write/draw for years!! Bunny Boy SNEAK PEEK

ENVIRA 3 starts tomorrow...

Envira III was started in 2011 and takes place shortly after the events in Envira II (who knew) it has been on the sidelines for a bit while I was trying to finish up FAT fridaze year 2 and playing a lot of music etc. Envira 3 Part 1 posts tomorrow (Wednesday, August 7th) and will continue each Wednesday until it's conclusion September 4th...

As you can see sometimes I change a lot of things from the initial pencils to inks to color...

The Original TALE

I will be posting new weekly Tales (from Fashion City) mini comics starting in July, but first I thought I'd share the original.

"Tales from Fashion City" is about a group of Super Heroes and the inhabitants of, you guessed it FASHION CITY!!

I originally started the series my Junior year in High School (2002) on notebook paper in Biology class... with "Wawee Pop Factory" a cheesy 9 page comic that introduced Drag Queen Boy & Fashion Girl.

I hadn't planned on posting it, but it is what started it all...

So, without further ado... I present my 17 year old notebook paper comic unedited...

"Bunny Boy" 2nd Printing/Comic Book ART SHOW

"Bunny Boy" IS BAA-AAACK!! I will be selling 20 copies of the 2nd printing tonight for $7 (RSVP here for the FREE Comic Book Art show at ART SHARE-LA in the Arts District (right next to Little Tokyo). This printing is larger and on card stock so it's much sturdier than the first...

22 Black and White hand drawn, inked, colored and written pages by yours truly. Color cover, with a centerfold and bound with twine. 

I am really happy with the turn out... you can see a lot of the detail and even some pencil mark etc. It's very messy/clean just like I like it. I'm super fucking thrilled with this comic... it was almost 3 years in the making and introduces Fashion Girl, Drag Queen Boy and Gravy Girl from TALES FROM FASHION CITY (More TFFC free mini digital comics coming very soon)

3 of these images are from the unpublished Envira 3!! (halfway complete)

I always knew she would be my underdog character... Loving the planet is like, so not cool... It's sad. I'm really happy to have her amongst my characters though... People will get her more some day when her tale is more fleshed out.

Envira 4 is already planned out and a lot of the plot is finished.. and I have plenty of ideas for Envira 5... plus a prequel... and I'm down for other random stories...

THREE DEE Music Fest @ Art Share-LA

Special thanks to everyone who came out this weekend!!! I'd also like to thank Art Share-LA, DRrecords, Sterling Morrison, Chris Magallon, Monica Schrock, Lok Hwa (for an amazing poster), Diana Lee (for these photos) & All of the amazing bands that played!!

It was really awesome to print all of this stuff and to see it all side by side. Also, it was really great watching total strangers read it :)

What I learned however is that duct tape and bricks don't mix :/ (That's why they are so crudely taped up there) Note to self... check out the space ahead of time so you can plan better...

ALSO... I was asked to come back for a comic artists show at the end of June!! I'm sooo excited! More info coming soon!
