Green Zine # 1..... IS HERE!!

Just a day before gay history was made I printed out these bad boys. It was an interesting process... I hadn't drawn Adrian/Phoenix or Mews in about 9 months or so... I have missed them but needed the break after years of working on FAT fridaze.

Mews makes a smaller cameo but was the missing piece... I penciled and inked Mews on the cover but he decided to start making himself known digitally...

Then when it came to some promo shots he decided to make an appearance in the flesh... He began rolling around and being adorable in the background....

I hope you enjoy this 8 page FAT fridaze story and add it to your collection of DMBstudios zines... I will be making 2 more Green Zines as well as a 3rd Daniel Zine this year... so look out for them...

DMBstudios 2014 Preview

Around December I become extra hermit-y trying to finish up drawing and inking as much as I can so I can look back someday and see a ton of my stuff with a 2013 date on it :)

I think it's really important to look back and take note of your accomplishments. I'm really happy with all the work I was able to produce in 2013... I just had to sacrifice any personal life I once had.

In 2013 I...

- Finished comic strip series "FAT fridaze: Year 2" (52 original comic strips)

-Started "FAT fridaze: Year 3" (the final year of the series)

-Debuted "TALES from Fashion City" (8 mini comics in a continuing series with characters I created a decade ago)

- Finally finished Envira III (which was started in 2011)

-Played live music for 6 months in a band (that no longer exists :(

-Recorded live music

-Produced/recorded/released 41 solo songs/sounds on Soundcloud


2014

I plan to continue FF3, TALES from Fashion City and Envira and I will be debuting a new comic series "Wanita the wheelchair Witch"

The next TALE (from Fashion City) will guest star a familiar face... I'm so glad I finally was able to make this one happen...

and lastly I will start finally animating.

Thanks, your support means a lot to me... without people reading my stories they are just sitting there gathering (digital) dust. I want to make 2014 a really great year... the more support I get the more I will be able to put into my work and the more readers etc the more professionals might take me seriously... dream? for a publishing company to come to me and want to print my stuff.

FAT Fridaze Year 3

Time has really flown by... I can't believe I will be posting my 105th comic strip this Friday!

For those new to FAT fridaze it is a weekly comic strip series (my very first) about 2 gay best friends (also my first comic with a gay protagonist) Adrian & Phoenix started back in 2010. I had always wanted to work on a series with gay characters that I could relate to, characters that don't really fit into the mainstream idea of "GAY"...

I'm excited to finally work on a few ideas and stories I've had for a while and didn't realize I could tell with these characters... I honestly don't know how FF3 will end but I have a few ideas...

I got to attend Bent Con this past weekend (GAY NERDS UNITE!!) It was great to be around other gay nerds and see their work... I was really excited to see the panel for Husbands and meet the amazingly talented & funny Jane Espinson, Brad Bell, Sean Hemeon, Drew Z. Greenberg, & Eli Gonda. (of course I immediately got awkward and didn't know what to say to any of them...) but still glad I got to be there.

Unfortunately most of the comics and art I saw could be classified as stereotypical gay porn... bulging muscles, giant veiny cocks... (perpetuating crazy unrealistic standards for younger gay guys and contributing to the over sexualization and further objectification of gay men) one of the other reasons I made FF is because I wanted there to be something out there that wasn't porn. Something that showed a gay guy behind the scenes... at home, with friends... I really wanted to show intimacy as opposed to penetration. I feel like one of the reasons gay media isn't taken seriously is because it tends to rely too much on sex and nudity and comes across as low budget soft core... with Husbands and other amazing new gay web series I feel like soon there will be more money for gay media all around...

100th Strip Retrospective Art Show

In honor of the fast approaching 100th FAT Fridaze comic strip, I will be showing a "behind the scenes/making of" as well as displaying all 100 comic strips (5 of which will not be posted online yet) at an upcoming 2 day music & art event in The Arts District. I would be thrilled if anyone came and checked it out. It has been a labor of love and will be nice to display some early sketches etc. I will also be displaying some never before posted photos of my cat (who is one of the characters in the strip) and just life in LA etc.

Missing Cat: FAT Fridaze YR 2 Banner Retrospective/Making of Part 1

A lot of the format of FAT Fridaze has been due to the way blogspot is set up. That is why I chose to do a vertical strip as opposed to horizontal. I also wanted to insure that people could read the strip easily on their phone. I've been using banners like comic book covers since none of the strips have been printed yet to just move the story along. (Can't wait to print a book of FAT Fridaze sketches, drawings and banners some day :)))

This time I did the banner a different way... it's an actual whole image as opposed to just drawings of a few characters with a background thrown in. I drew this image with pencil, then went over it with a black colored pencil (shown below) then without doing any fill I hand colored it on Photoshop, I was really thrilled with how the texture and color worked together :)

Below are FF2's banner art so far... I already have the next 2 finished... Thanks for letting me take you guys on this little journey with me... and thanks again for reading and supporting!!

FAT Fridaze 2 & other adventures...

I recently finished new banner art (that this teaser is from). I also inked FAT Fridaze Strip 53 (the first strip of my second year of this strip series!! WHEEE!!), but will be taking a break from it to work on something else very exciting!!

I've lived in LA about 5 years now give or take and 3 1/2 of those years have been devoted to the development, creation, collaboration and often fantasy of ripping all my hair out from the stress. This roller coaster has been well worth it, for next week I will finally start the dream job I've been waiting on...

I will finally be working on a cartoon!!!!

A CARTOOOOOOON!!! :D)))

Some people wanted to be Marine Biologists when they were kids (wonder how many stuck with that) others wanted to be an astronaut... I wanted to be a "Cartoonist". At least that was the word I used for it at the time. I felt it encompassed the entire cartoon process: the brainstorming, character design, illustration, coloring, inking, story, script, music, animation, and any other technical aspect I didn't know about. (I didn't really realize that it takes a huge team of people, lot's of money and time to bring all the elements together) Luckily since then I have been working on my own projects and trying to develop all aspects of my childhood idea of Cartoonist. So far I have done all of them except animation and recording music/edtiting etc... and that is something I'm hoping to change this year or next.


I won't be animating but I had the privilege of designing the characters, illustrating and hand coloring everything. I couldn't be more thrilled/blessed!! :)


Thanks so much to Kyle Schember and Wiley Hodgden for giving me this amazing opportunity!! I will work my ass off to make this my best work!!


We have only been picked up for a pilot though, so we will be counting on the viewers to help us get picked up (fingers crossed)

Jimmy the zine!!

"FAT Fridaze" So far...

First of all, I just want to say Thank You to everyone that has read FAT Fridaze so far :) I really appreciate it... it's still the really early stages so the kinks aren't all worked out just yet... and if you haven't read it, there is still time!! (just click........ here.)

I had been wanting to write for characters like this for a while. Gay guys that I could relate to... I hope as these guys get fleshed out other people can relate to them as well.  I also like the simplicity of the format... the story can never be too long because there just isn't enough space.

I think some people are under the impression that all comic strips are LOL-athons... but really some of these aren't going to even attempt to be funny (I know the punch lines are lagging a bit on the first few, haha)... they're just little "slices" of these character's lives. The stories will range in genre as well as the art... Sometimes these guys look more "realistic" and other times they are extremely cartoony... I've done a lot of stories with Mews the cat so far too that I'm excited about.

The best part so far is that this is a great little project to work on in my down time. Sketch something out here, finish inking something there... before too long it's colored and ready to post. I am really excited about Strip: #006 that posts this Friday... the art is better (getting more comfortable with drawing these guys) and this isn't just a short little "quip"...

I've fleshed out about 20 now... and I'm really excited with where it's going already.
